BRNO – the moravian metropolis
Brno is located in the southeastern part of the country, at the confluence of the Svitava and Svratka rivers. The city is the political and cultural hub of the South Moravian Region, situated at the crossroads of ancient trade routes which have joined northern and southern European civilizations for centuries.
There are many things Brno has to offer – not only sightseeing, but also shops, restaurants, bars, galleries and parks. In the beautiful historic centre you can admire many historic sites such as Spilberk castle, the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, the Augustinian cloister, as well as unique examples of contemporary architecture. One of the most important buildings of Modernist architecture, the Villa Tugendhat by Mies van der Rohe is in Brno. The Villa Tugendhat has survived in its original form and thanks to its originality it has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
